True Cinnamon Quills 3" Organic 50 gm
The World's Finest Cinnamon, Certified Organic
Not all cinnamon is created equal. Our Certified Organic True Cinnamon Quills are sourced from Cinnamomum verum (also known as Ceylon cinnamon) — the original, authentic cinnamon native to Sri Lanka and widely regarded as the world's finest. Delicate, multi-layered, and hand-rolled into elegant 3" quills, True Cinnamon is distinguished from the more common Cassia cinnamon by its softer texture, lighter colour, and complex, subtly sweet flavour with gentle floral notes.
Unlike Cassia varieties, True Cinnamon contains only trace amounts of coumarin — a naturally occurring compound that can be harmful to the liver in large doses — making it the preferred choice for daily therapeutic and culinary use.
Key Health Benefits
- Blood Sugar Balance — True Cinnamon is one of the most well-researched botanicals for supporting healthy blood glucose levels. Its active compounds, including cinnamaldehyde and procyanidins, have been shown to improve insulin sensitivity and slow the absorption of glucose in the digestive tract, supporting more stable blood sugar levels after meals.
- Powerful Antioxidant Activity — Ceylon cinnamon is exceptionally rich in polyphenols and other antioxidant compounds, ranking among the highest of all spices. These antioxidants help neutralise free radicals, reduce oxidative stress, and protect cells from damage associated with ageing and chronic disease.
- Anti-Inflammatory Support — The bioactive compounds in True Cinnamon have demonstrated significant anti-inflammatory properties in research, helping to reduce systemic inflammation that underlies many chronic health conditions including cardiovascular disease, arthritis, and metabolic syndrome.
- Cardiovascular Health — Regular consumption of cinnamon has been associated with improvements in lipid profiles, including reductions in total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triglycerides, while supporting healthy HDL levels and blood pressure regulation.
- Digestive Support — Traditionally used across Ayurvedic, Chinese, and Western herbal medicine to warm and stimulate the digestive system, relieve bloating, reduce gas, and support healthy gut motility.
- Antimicrobial Properties — Cinnamaldehyde, the primary active compound in cinnamon, has demonstrated broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity against a range of bacteria, fungi, and yeasts, including Candida species, in laboratory studies.
- Cognitive Support — Emerging research suggests cinnamon compounds may help protect neurons, improve brain function, and reduce the risk of neurodegenerative conditions by inhibiting the aggregation of tau proteins associated with Alzheimer's disease.
- Oral Health — The antimicrobial properties of cinnamon make it a traditional remedy for supporting oral hygiene, freshening breath, and inhibiting the growth of bacteria associated with tooth decay and gum disease.
How to Use
True Cinnamon Quills can be used whole, broken into pieces, or ground fresh as needed. Their delicate flavour is more nuanced than Cassia cinnamon — use them generously and enjoy their complexity.
- Warming teas & tonics — Simmer a quill in water for 10–15 minutes to make a gentle cinnamon tea. Add ginger, cardamom, and a touch of raw honey for a deeply warming, digestive chai-style tonic.
- Coffee & hot chocolate — Drop a quill into your coffee or hot chocolate while it brews for a subtle, aromatic sweetness without added sugar.
- Cooking & slow cooking — Add whole quills to curries, biryanis, tagines, soups, and stews. Remove before serving or leave in for continued infusion.
- Baking — Break quills and grind fresh for use in cakes, biscuits, muffins, and spiced breads. Freshly ground True Cinnamon has a far superior flavour to pre-ground commercial cinnamon.
- Infused oils & syrups — Infuse quills into coconut oil, olive oil, or simple syrups for a beautifully aromatic base for dressings, marinades, and dessert toppings.
- Overnight oats & porridge — Steep a quill in your milk or water overnight before making oats for a gentle, warming cinnamon flavour throughout.
- Blood sugar support ritual — Brew a cinnamon quill tea and drink before or with meals to support healthy post-meal glucose levels.
Herb–Drug Interactions
True Cinnamon (Ceylon) is generally considered safe for culinary and moderate therapeutic use. However, please consult your healthcare professional before use if you are taking any of the following:
- Antidiabetic medications & insulin — Cinnamon may have an additive blood glucose-lowering effect when combined with insulin or oral hypoglycaemic agents (e.g. metformin, glipizide). This can increase the risk of hypoglycaemia. Blood sugar monitoring is strongly advised, and medication doses may need adjustment under medical supervision.
- Blood-thinning medications (anticoagulants) — Cinnamon contains small amounts of coumarin (significantly less than Cassia) and may have mild antiplatelet activity. Use with caution alongside warfarin, aspirin, or other anticoagulant/antiplatelet medications.
- Antihypertensive medications — Cinnamon may have a mild blood pressure-lowering effect. Combined with antihypertensive drugs, this could produce an additive effect. Monitor blood pressure regularly.
- Antibiotics — The antimicrobial properties of cinnamon are generally complementary to antibiotic therapy, however high-dose cinnamon supplementation alongside antibiotics has not been well studied. Use at culinary doses is considered safe.
-
Liver medications — While True Ceylon cinnamon contains only trace amounts of coumarin (unlike Cassia), very high supplemental doses over extended periods should be used with caution in individuals with pre-existing liver conditions or those taking hepatotoxic medications. These include
7 commonly prescribed drugs -
- Paracetamol (acetaminophen)
- Statins (atorvastatin, rosuvastatin, simvastatin)
- Methotrexate
- Amiodarone
- Azathioprine
- Isoniazid (INH)
- Valproate (sodium valproate)
- Cholesterol-lowering medications (statins) — Cinnamon has demonstrated lipid-modifying effects, including reductions in total cholesterol, LDL, and triglycerides. When combined with statins (e.g. atorvastatin, rosuvastatin) or other lipid-lowering agents, there may be an additive effect. While generally beneficial, this combination should be monitored by a healthcare professional to ensure lipid levels remain within a healthy range and to adjust medication doses if needed.
